Senior Spotlight: Jonathan Baumann

As graduation draws near, we’re sitting down with the class of 2023 to talk about their time at Sioux Falls Lutheran School and what the future holds.

Name: Jonathan Baumann

Accepted to: Concordia University Nebraska

Intended field of study: Nursing

How did you decide on a school/field of study?
I know that I have the work ethic to succeed in whatever I’m going to pursue, but I’ve also enjoyed every subject I’ve looked into, making my decision even more difficult. With nursing, I would always have a job and the opportunity to advance my career by becoming a physician’s assistant, nurse anesthetist, or maybe a surgeon. Plus, I would be making a lot of money.

What makes Concordia a good fit for you?
Attending a Lutheran college wasn’t a make-or-break deal for me, but it was vital that I would be supported and challenged in my faith and surrounded by like-minded Christians. I also like the smaller atmosphere at Concordia and the relatively short commute time between college and home, so I hopefully won’t be too overwhelmed by the change.

Which classes, programs, and/or faculty at Sioux Falls Lutheran School helped support your interest in your planned field of study?
Every subject I’ve looked into as a high schooler has always been really interesting for me, if not fun, but STEM classes have always come naturally to me, which made something in the medical field sensible.

Are there any other activities that had a significant impact on you during your time at SFLS?
All of my extracurriculars and friends have definitely had an impact on me, and I know that if it works in my new schedule, I’ll continue working in choirs and theatre.

What advice would you share with underclassmen at SFLS?
Be better than you were yesterday.

What is your favorite Bible verse?
“But God shows His love to us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” –Romans 5:8
