Full-time First Grade Teacher

Sioux Falls Lutheran School is seeking a passionate, energetic educator to serve our growing school community.   • Bachelor’s degree in education

  • A valid South Dakota Teacher Certificate or willingness to obtain one

  • Commissioned Minister of Religion with the LC-MS, or willing to complete the Synod’s colloquy program, preferred

Varsity Volleyball Coach & Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach

Our high performing volleyball program with back-to-back 20-win seasons is seeking passionate, energetic Christian coaches to serve our growing school community. The ideal candidates will have a BA/BS in education, two or more years of experience working with youth, and must have first aid and CPR knowledge. The volleyball coaches will report to the SFLS athletic director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  1. Instruct athletes individually or in groups regarding the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport.

  2. Organize and execute an effective practice.

  3. Assign duties to assistant coaches as necessary.

  4. Determine athlete participation during practices and games, including squad level and playing time, in conjunction with assistant coaches at the respective level.

    1. Monitor student athletes’ academic performance to ensure eligibility requirements are met in conjunction with the athletic director.

  5. Positively promote the athletic program within the school and community.

  6. Communicate verbally and electronically with athletes, parents/guardians, and school administration in an effective manner.

  7. Assist in the selection of assistant coaches.

  8. Work with the Athletic Director in:

    1. Scheduling practices and competitions

    2. Arranging out-of-town trips, leave times, etc.

    3. Organizing off season clinics and camps

    4. Fundraising-merchandising

  9. Ensure supervision of student athletes on the court, in training/conditioning facilities and in locker rooms during and following periods of team participation.

  10. Maintain eligibility forms, medical history forms, consent forms and other related records in conjunction with the athletic director.

  11. Care for athletes and injured athletes.

  12. Follow procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, uniforms and supplies.

  13. Keep informed on new information and techniques for designated sport and participate in respective clinics.

  14. As a community (coaches, athletes, parents, fans) in everything you do and say represent God, Sioux Falls Lutheran School, and yourself in a Christian manner.

  15. Help select representatives for a parent council each athletic season. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Eye-hand coordination, physical dexterity, the ability to bend, stoop, walk, talk and sit.  Exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases.  Travel between locations can cause exposure to hazardous driving and walking conditions.


Full-time Evening Custodian

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Sioux Falls Lutheran School’s full-time custodian will maintain attractive, sanitary, and safe facilities and grounds for students, staff, parents and extended community. In addition to a wonderfully warm, Christian community, we offer a competitive hourly wage, PTO, and health/retirement benefits for the employee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma

  • Prior custodial and facility maintenance experience preferred

  • Ability to work unsupervised

  • History of quality work and strong work ethic

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Demonstrated positive attitude towards people, ability to work cooperatively and flexibly

  • Willingness to accept instructions and training

  • Ability to pass fingerprint background check

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good physical health including ability to lift 75 pounds.

  • Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination, standing and walking.

  • Repetitive motion with wrists, hands, fingers, knees and feet.

  • Frequent bending, carrying, lifting and stooping.

  • Occasional climbing and crawling.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Is subject to being on call seven days per week and beyond the regular workday.

  • Occasionally subjected to mechanical and electrical hazards, extreme temperatures and humidity.

  • Atmospheric conditions occasionally include fumes and dust.

  • Caution necessary to avoid harm from misuse of chemicals.

REPORTS TO: Facilities Director

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work in assigned area vacuuming, emptying trash and recyclables, emptying pencil sharpeners, cleaning chalkboards and white boards. Washing walls, woodwork, windows and mirrors. Dusting (including high dusting), cleaning and polishing metal surfaces. Cleaning and maintaining hard and soft surface floors. Spot-cleaning soft surface floors. Cleaning, sanitizing and deodorizing kitchen and restrooms.

  2. Routinely inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs, and report needed repair of equipment, furnishings, fixtures, building and site.

  3. Assist with regular preventative maintenance of all cleaning equipment.

  4. Maintain an appropriate inventory level of cleaning, kitchen and sanitary supplies (paper towels, toilet paper, sanitizer, soap, vomit absorbent, etc.).

  5. Keep all soap, sanitizer, paper towel, and toilet paper dispensers adequately filled.

  6. Maintain organized and efficient custodial and maintenance storage spaces and closets.

  7. Prepare the facility for daily operations as may be required (sweep/shovel/remove snow/sand/wood chips/leaves, etc.).

  8. Set up/tear down furniture and equipment for school-related activities.

  9. Perform minor repairs and maintenance of furniture, equipment and facilities to ensure that items are available and in safe working condition.

  10. Help maintain concrete and blacktop surfaces and playgrounds, including pedestrian walkways. Work with contracted entities to ensure proper snow and ice removal.

  11. Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (i.e. facility damage, injured and/or ill students, unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.).

  12. Work a revised schedule and substitute for other custodial staff when necessary (e.g. holidays, extended days, weekend activities, etc.).

  13. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

  14. Ensures all lights are off, doors are locked and latched, and the building is secure at the end of shift.


Substitute Teachers (immediate opening)

Sioux Falls Lutheran School is seeking kind, gentle, fun-loving individuals to serve as substitute teachers and educational assistants for all age and grade levels (infants through 12th grade).  

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • A passion for serving learners and their families in a Christian setting

  • The ability to quickly adapt to a wide variety of situations

  • Without knowing when or why we might call, the willingness to go to bed each night with the notion that when we do call (and we will), a quick response is all we ask. You have no idea how much the job of substitute (a.k.a. Chief of Servants) means to front-line teachers and is revered by our entire school community.


Volunteer Baby Rockers

Sioux Falls Lutheran School is seeking kind, gentle, fun-loving individuals to volunteer as baby rockers in our infant care program. Ideal volunteers will have a natural desire to care for and interact with infants and toddlers. Volunteers will work in partnership with our experienced teachers, who are responsible for daily activity planning. All volunteers must complete a background check and orientation training with our child care director.
